Part A- Improving Teacher Quality
The purpose of Title II is to increase student academic achievement through strategies such as improving teacher and principal quality, increasing the number of highly qualified teachers in the classroom and highly qualified principals and assistant principals in schools, and holding LEAs and schools accountable for improvements in student academic achievement.
New Teacher Academy
Program Length: 3 Years
Teachers Per Year: ~70
Grade Levels: Pre-K—12
Every new teacher in our district is enrolled in the New Teacher Academy, a three-year program that gives them a dedicated mentor and a clear path for growing their skills. This is where the majority of Title II funding is directed — because supporting teachers early in their careers has a lasting impact on students.
Visible learning
Teaching strategies backed by research to have the greatest positive effect on how much students learn.
Teaching Today's Students
Today's students have grown up with technology and learn differently than previous generations. The Academy is regularly updated to reflect this, helping teachers connect with students in ways that work now.
Science of Learning
Understanding how the brain works — drawing from neuroscience, psychology, and cognitive research — so teachers can design lessons that stick.
National Board State and Local Incentive Program:
Maryland provides full fee support for National Board Certification (NBC) for Maryland public school teachers who meet certain eligibility requirements (see below).
